Bloodhounds are great dogs with really good temperaments. However, depending on the type of person you are they may not make the ideal pet. Bloodhounds have been known to slobber quite a lot. They also have a talent for flinging their saliva several yards when shaking their heads. Bloodhound dogs are best walked on a leash. They are tracking dog and have an incredible ability to pick up a scent. Once they have it they are off and it is difficult to get them to stop. It will be hard enough on a leash let alone off.
If you are interested in owning a bloodhound then they are quite easy to find. You will likely go through a breeder. They will have a good selection of bloodhound puppies for sale and adult dogs. They will likely be registered and have their papers as well. These are expensive but some think worth it.
Sometimes animal shelters will have bloodhound dogs and bloodhound puppies as well. However, they are very smart as useful dogs so they don’t tend to get abandoned. You may want to let local animal shelters know that you’re looking for one. They can get in touch with you if one comes by.
A Bloodhound is a great protector. The police use them for missing persons and to track thieves. It has been said that thieves quite often give up rather than be chased down by a bloodhound. They aren’t vicious at all but their size makes them quite intimidating.

The decision to own a bloodhound rests entirely in the person. They will cost more than the average dog due to their size. However, they have a great temperament and are very loyal. You house won’t get broken into while your bloodhound is still alive.
