Collie

The collie is an incredibly intelligent and energetic dog. They do make great pets but are active and need lots of attention. They are very attractive dogs and end up in homes that in many cases are not prepared for them. They do however, have a good temperament but are a challenge to tire out.

The collie originated from the border region of England and Scotland. They were mainly used for work purposes the most common of which was herding sheep. The collie today is still used for this purpose but have become increasingly popular domestic pets.

The collie does need care. They have an endless supply of energy and work best with people who want an active pet. They are highly intelligent and quite easy to train. They are also great at Dog sports. Chances are you will tire out before the dog.

There are many places to get a collie. You can go through a breeder and get a wide choice of ages. They will likely have collie puppies for sale as well as adult collies.

Unfortunately, a fair few collies end up in animal shelters. Many are not prepared for the Dogs energy and the time they require. Again you can find shelters that just deal in collies and the different types of breed. You may find bearded collies or again collie puppies. Make sure you do some research on owning a collie before you take one home. They are great dogs but do need a fair bit of physical and mental stimulation.

However, if you’re able to get through a few months with the dog, chances are things will get good quite quickly. One of the great things about the collie is their intelligence levels. They will learn quickly if you’re their to train them. They are also a good dog around other animals. Although they may get herded and chased a bit, the collie has a good temperament and shouldn’t cause any harm to other pets.

If you’re looking for a dog that is both beautiful and smart, and you have some time, a collie might be for you.
