Dog Breeds

There are literally thousands of dog breeds. There are pure bred dogs and dogs that are crossed with other breeds. Which breed is best is always a topic for the hottest debate/ those who love active dogs may like the huskies or shepherds while those that just want a loyal friend or companion may like a small terrier.

Dogs are wonderful creatures despite the Dog breed that they come from. Some Dog breeds have earned themselves a bad reputation due to bad press, training and bad breeders. The American pit bull is an example of this. They are by nature a particularly aggressive dog breed. However, they are intelligent and loyal to their owners if treated well. There are several people who own these dogs and have great success. It takes a firm hand combined with a loving nature and some pet sense of responsibility to keep these dogs in line.

There are small dog breeds and large dog breeds. The strange thing is that many of the most affectionate dog breeds are large dogs. The mighty Great Dane and St. Bernard are some of the largest and most intimidating dogs there are. They are also some of the most gentile and loving dogs you can own.

Small dog breeds should not be considered weak. Many small dog breeds are as bold as brass and seem completely oblivious to their size. It isn’t uncommon for small dog breeds to take on much larger animals. Yorkshire terriers, Chihuahuas and Havanese dogs are known for this. Many times to their own injury.

Those who want to learn about dog breeds can get a list of recognized dog breeds from the American kennel club. They are a great source of information for anyone wanting to own a dog. Animal charities as well are great sources of information on how to care and handle particular dog breeds.

Owning a dog is one of life’s great pleasures. They give love unconditionally way more than it is given. Depending on what tastes you have, you may want to look at a particular Dog breed. Depending on the time and you personality, you will likely find a dog breed that is perfectly suited to you.
