Great Dane
As one of the biggest breed of dog known to man, they are also one of the most sensitive and loving. The Great Dane is an excellent family dog. They want to be part of your family and you may find yourself buying a king size bed to make room. Their size does make them a bit intimidating to some people but you should not have any fear. They do not have the aggressive traits of some other dogs and rarely are there any problems reported with them.
Owning a Great Dane can be a wonderful experience. They typically are very easy to train due to their high intelligence. They are also sensitive by nature and respond well to praise. Lots of rewards and compliments are required when training a Great Dane. They will respond well. All the negative reinforcement you will need is raising you voice. Sometimes not looking at them will do the trick. Hitting them is highly discouraged. It could traumatize them. A simple tap or clap of the hand is more than enough for this mighty dog.
The Great Dane love treats but you do have to careful. They are known for sensitive stomachs so make sure they are appropriate. You do have to gain the Great Danes respect. Great Dane owners that have more than one say, if they don’t respect you they will conspire against you. Consistence in commands and lots of reinforcement should do the trick.
There are plenty of places to get a Great Dane. There are excellent breeders that will have great Danes for sale. You may be able to find Great Dane puppies as well as blue great Danes. Great Danes do end up in rescue centers. Their size and appetites does not make them the dog for everyone. Getting a Great Dane rescue dog is a wonderful thing to do. An animal charity won’t rehome them unless they are ready. However, the great Dane is seldom vicious even if they have undergone some mistreatment.
The Great Dane is a big dog and do require some care and lots of feeding. However, they are very smart, loving and sensitive. If you decide to get one you may want to make some extra space in your bed.
