Pomeranian
The Pomeranian breed of dog was originally from Germany. They were bred as sled dogs centuries ago. They are small dogs about the same size as a Chihuahua. They are very intelligent and loyal dogs and make excellent companions.
Those with small children may want to rethink getting a Pomeranian. There small size makes them quite vulnerable to children who like to play. The Pomeranian also needs training and conditioning. They are known to be a rather loud dog if they aren’t trained properly.
The Pomeranian can however make an excellent watch dog. They are very alert and aware and will announce the presence of any intruder with quite a loud series of barks. Their small size makes them perfect for city apartment living and their hunting instincts also make them well suited to country living.
The Pomeranian was once a much larger Dog. It has been through selective breeding that the dogs are the reduced size that they are today. Both Queen Victoria and Queen Charlotte both owned larger versions of the Dog.
The Pomeranian despite its size are quite healthy and robust dogs. They have an average life span of 12-16 years. However, it isn’t uncommon to see Pomeranians reach as age of 18-20.
The Pomeranian comes in many different breeds. There are teacup Pomeranians, Toy Pomeranians and black Pomeranians. They are all small and share a similar temperament.
If you want to own one of these shrunken former sled dogs then there are plenty of opportunities. There are plenty of Pomeranian breeders that will have information and plenty of dogs to choose from. You may want to consider a Pomeranian rescue dog. Due to their barking nature many end up in shelters. Pomeranian Rescue centers work tirelessly to give these dogs a good new home. They will also give you all the information and support you need.
The Pomeranian is a very cute dog. They are incredibly loyal and clever. They do need training and stimulation which will require some time on the owners part. However, they can make great friends and companions if treated well.
