Shih-Tzu

The Shih Tzu is one of the oldest breeds of dogs. They were though to guard the palace of the emperor in china. They were known to bark quite loudly when an unknown or unwanted visitor approached. The Shih Tzu today is a popular pet. They are a good sized dog for both houses and apartments.

The Shih Tzu dog is a great friend and companion but does require some care. There eyes do need to be cleaned every day to remove the mucous that builds up. This can however, be reduced by giving your shih tzu bottled water or water with a low chlorine content.

The Shih Tzu is a very energetic dog. They love long walks, runs but are happy to run around the home. There long coat does require a fair amount of brushing to avoid tangles. The coat can be cut to reduce this problem.

The Shih Tzu is not a fan of high temperatures. If you live in a warm weather region you will need an air conditioned home. Airlines refuse to handle and ship these dogs if the outside temperature exceeds 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Shih Tzu is a very cute dog and can be a very loving companion. Anyone wanting one should however get some Shih Tzu information. Those wanting Shih Tzu puppies or adult dogs will have no problem finding one. The breed is quite popular despite the extra care involved. There are Shih Tzu rescues as well that carry dogs. This is a very rewarding way to get a pet. They are also excellent sources of care information as well.

The shih Tzu was once trusted with guarding imerperial palaces. They are small but beautiful dogs that do require some maintenance. They do have a good temperament but have loads of energy. If you’re a fan of long walks then a Shih Tzu may be a great friend for you. If you don’ mind some brushing and daily eye cleaning then you and your Shih Tzu could be a match made in heaven.
